21 Months and Counting…
Otto is changing by the minute it seems! He is by far our most bull-headed child. Ayla and Zeke were opinionated but wanted to negotiate. Otto will let you know he’s unhappy with something by screaming at the top of his lungs, throwing things, kicking or going boneless. And he seems to be unhappy with a lot of things. Especially foods. It seems we have a third picky eater on our hands. *sigh*

In the last week his vocabulary has exploded. He has gone from saying shortened versions of things (“bi” for bike.) to saying the full word. Here’s some things he’s currently saying:
-“Ah-do”- how he says his name
-“bubby”-bottle, specifically his pink water bottle that used to be Ayla’s
-“yup” or “dep”- he used to say “yeah” a lot but it morphed into yup/dep
-“bye”-he says bye to things he’s done with. When we come up from the basement he says bye to the basement.
-“hi la” “bye la”-how he says hi and bye to Ayla.
-Ayla- his most favorite person in the whole world.
-“How-I”-star. As in “how I wonder what you are.” If you point to a star and ask him what it is, he says “how-I.”
-“mah”-more
-“oh-bee”-open. When I taught him how to say open I really annunciation the OOO. So he says “oh-bee. Oooooh-beee.”
He associates each one of us in the family to certain colors. So he sees a color, points to it and says the name. So he points to pink or purple and says “La!” I am orange, Jake is blue and Zeke changes between yellow and red. I’m have no idea where this came from or why he associated us with colors… it seems completely right for our family though!
He still loves all things outdoor tools. Rakes, shovels, brooms… he has been digging in the dirt of the garden and enjoying moving it around scoop by scoop.
He loves the hairbrush and carries one around often and sleeps with it too.
We are struggling with sleep with him. He slept through the night 4 nights last week but in general is up a lot or waking up super early (3:40 today!) and we are at a loss as to what we should do.
It’s a few weeks later now. It takes me so long to get these things done. Otto has already changed so much since the last time I edited! He is now 22 months.
His most recent saying is “mah neah” (pronounced like yeah). It means more there. He says is constantly.
He also says “bus” all the time. He’s always so excited when he sees a bus and says it over and over. The way he enunciates the “s” is so cute.
When he hears bird chirping he will make his mouth into a round O, like he’s super surprised and then he says “oh! Beep!” (That’s the sound he thinks the birds make.)
He just cut his first two-year-old molar and has been feeling a bit less grouchy since then. We seen some improvement with his sleep as well.
He counts. He knows two comes after one. You’ll hear him counting to himself, “dew bah dew bah dew.”
He answers “deppy” if he is agreeing enthusiastically. Like if you ask him if he wants a snack.
He learned what Hot means. He sees me with my coffee and says “Ot” then blows like he’s blowing on something hot.
He has also started saying “uh oh.”
He likes to look out the window to wave bye or to wait for someone to come home. Or just in general.š
Well, I better post this before he turns 2!
