The Organizer and The Artist- A Tale

Somewhere in a sunny prairie there lives an Artist- a young, free-spirited little thing. She creates. Constantly. She can't help it. It is who she is, and it is lovely. She is lovely. She draws, she writes, she cuts and glues, she colors. Constantly. Like most houses, in her house there is art hanging on the refrigerator. Unlike most houses, in her house, there is art hanging on the tv cabinet

on light switches

hanging on walls

and on doors

and yes, on door hinges.

Now her mother-the organizer-not quite as young, or as free-spirited... likes things neat. Not sterile, mind you... but neat. She likes to complete projects, she likes things put away and wiped down, she likes things... organized. You can imagine the artwork on the cabinets ("reminding the Organizer to take her medicine")

or stuck in the plants

has a tendency to... well, to make her cringe just the tiniest bit. Almost as quickly as the Artist hangs murals of cutout snowflakes all over the living room wall, the Organizer is there, peeling them off before the scotch tape sticks to the point of not coming unstuck. And as the Artist hangs strands of colorful beads from almost every doorknob in the house, the Organizer is there consolidating them to all the same doorknob, just to have the Artist come behind her and disperse them all back to their original knob.

The Organizer has this little box on her dresser where she keeps things of importance. She recently noticed it growing ever fuller with little mini-masterpieces the Artist leaves her-mostly made of things or colored with things that are teal-the Organizers favorite color. At first the Organizer was a bit peeved by this, having to dig under all these random pieces of "art" to get to what she was looking for... somewhat inconvenient if you ask her. But then she realized something. If the Artist is making all these things with her favorite color, they aren't just made, the are made FOR HER. They are made to bring her joy. This realization has begun to melt her heart a bit. (Don't get me wrong, she isn't a cold hearted person... she just likes her order) She has begun to see the art on the walls, on the chairs, on the windows, and in the beds as little bits of joy that make her smile wherever (truly WHEREVER) she looks. Even the one on the bathroom door informing the Artist's little brother that he HAS to stay out of the toilet!
